Welcoming Our New Board Member: A Champion for Human Rights

Join Us in Celebrating a New Era of Advocacy

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to our board, whose dedication to human rights and social justice will drive our mission forward. Discover how their leadership will help us make a greater impact.

Alma Curiel

Alma is a first-generation Mexican American born in La Jolla, California. Raised with a deep sense of community and cultural pride, Alma has long been committed to advancing social justice and supporting marginalized populations.

As a high school student, Alma became actively involved in the advocacy efforts surrounding Proposition 187, a controversial measure that sought to restrict public services for undocumented immigrants in California. This early experience sparked a lifelong passion for defending the rights of immigrants and communities of color.

During college, Alma joined MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán), where she continued to advocate for social change. It was through this involvement that Alma attended a Women in Leadership seminar, where she had the privilege of meeting Dolores Huerta, a transformative moment that further solidified her commitment to the causes of labor rights and migrant justice.

Today, Alma works in healthcare where she continues to apply this wealth of experience in advocacy and leadership, support, and policy advocacy for the community. Alma is committed to fostering an inclusive society where the rights and dignity of all individuals are honored.
